Reuters: Big Tech accused of failing to tackle US midterm ‘lies’
Platform algorithms too often prioritise user engagement above all other concerns, according to Zamaan Qureshi of the Real Facebook Oversight Board. Qureshi was quoted in a Reuters article which reported on criticisms from campaign groups that social media networks had failed to invest sufficiently in content moderation and fact-checking in the run-up to the US mid-term elections in November. ‘Qureshi said Facebook’s record in elections around the world was a cause for concern, pointing to recent polls in Brazil and Kenya, where he said the platform did not sufficiently rein in misinformation and hate speech.’ Read the full article in Reuters
